Kekayon Museum

Wayang is the result of the high culture that teaches Indonesia wisdom through his stories. In Yogyakarta there is a museum that records the development of wayang puppets, shadow puppets and especially puppet people, from time to time. His name Kekayon. Wayang is a form of traditional drama. The plots are taken from the Indian epic-epic that since hundreds of years ago has been in the internalization by the Indonesian people through the teachings of Hinduism and Buddhism. No wonder if the story and the characters in the puppet you can also meet in temples relief in Indonesia. 

Museum Kekayon address at Jalan Raya Jogja-Wonosari km 7 No. 277, Baturetno, Banguntapan, Bantul, Yogyakarta. To achieve this, you can hire a taxi or public transport because it was very affordable. The museum is located only 6 kilometers from the airport, 5 kilometers from Bus Giwangan, and 10 Km Tugu Station, Malioboro and Sultan Palace.


In architecture, a building area of 1.1 ha is made with traditional Javanese architectural treasures joglo shape. Kekayon Museum has a collection of 25 types of puppets with the number of 5464 units. The types of puppets that had collected among other styles Purwa Puppet Yogyakarta and Surakarta, Wayang Associate and Gedhog, Puppet Klithik, Krucil, and Beber, Puppet Madura, Dupara, Kartasuran, Kidang Kencana, Wayang Bali, Suluh, Golek Menak, Puppet Panji, Tengul doll, Javanese Wayang, tutur, Diponegaran, Golek cropped, True, Geculan, potehi from China Puppet, Puppet Kanci, Contemporary Wayang, Wayang Thailand, America, India, and special Puppet Palace. Besides this museum is also collecting various masks of Java, Bali & various traditional arts. 

The museum is established since 1991 also has several unique collections, such as puppets of scarce one hundred Kauravas. There are also puppet origin Thengul Toolbox Jepara, Central Java who was older than 250 years. Klithik puppet-like puppet show and come from areas Banyuwangi, Tulungagung, or Purworejo using Damarwulan and Minakjinggo story as the story goes.


There are also replicas of the life-size puppets from the original Ramayana epic, the Rama, Shinta, Ravana, and Hanuman.
